Tips making your Lose Wieght plan a Success
August 2nd, 2008
You are all set to lose weight: you’ve designed your diet, exercise, and special circumstances. Here are some key points for making your plan a success.
- Start slowly. Most people want to lose 10 or 20 pounds in one week. This is not realistic. Permanent weight loss takes time. Look for no more than one or two pounds a week.
- Change one habit at a time. Even if you are gung-ho to turn your world upside down, forget it! Work on one meal or one snack only. When you feel comfortable with that, go on to another problem food or time.
- Always plan and write down your next day’s eating schedule the night before. Be prepared for vulnerable times and determine how you are going to handle the situation.
- Eat regular meals. Don’t go longer than five hours without eating. You will lose more weight this way even if you take in more calories.
- Drink two pints of water each day. That’s eight eight-ounce glasses. If you are retaining water, drinking water helps to get rid of it.
- Diet with a friend if you can. It’s good to have someone with whom you can share the experience. A support group is even better.
- Eat with friends. Some people don’t want their friends to know they are dieting, so they avoid eating in public. Then when they get home, everything but the refrigerator goes in their mouth. Don’t be embarrassed to watch what you eat with your friends, too.
- When you eat, do so without distractions. Don’t watch TV or read. Pay attention to your food. Look at it, smell it, taste it, enjoy it.
- Eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain you are full. If it helps, have an apple or something similar half an hour before dinner so you don’t overeat.
- Keep problem foods out of the house and store up on lower-calorie snacks. You are more likely to resist temptation if it’s not there.
- If you don’t like something, don’t eat it. Why waste your calories? (Be sensible though—this is not an excuse to stop eating fruit and vegetables and other essential food.)
- When you blow it, and you will, forgive yourself and go on. Weight loss is a process that you don’t learn overnight.
- Record all you eat with the caloric value until you know what you are taking in. Do it for a minimum of four weeks. Three months is even better.
- Picture yourself as the person you know you can be!
Now you know it all. You have the guidelines to design your own safe diet plan. Just know that is possible and know you are going to succeed. You are wonderful as you are right now. Soon, you will feel even more wonderful because you are doing something to make your life healthier. I wish you all success.
