How to not throw Dieting on yum Parties? Simple ways to suppress your Appetite
Birthdays Party
Birthdays are really let-loose days because it’s your day and nobody else’s. Even those who harp about our fat will take us out, pile it high, and egg us on. Well, this year, you have something to celebrate—being a “born-again skinny.”
To reinforce my own life choice of being a skinny, because that 170-pound whale that I once was is always lurking, I choose to make my birthday one of the most austere days of my year. Almost like a day of worship and reverence for myself, my health, and my skinny being.
Too well I know that what once was can always be again. Those lusting little fat cells are poised at attention, waiting eagerly for their chance to plump up again. Instead of eating I buy myself a present—something special that I have looked forward to during the year.
Of course, many of my clients ignore my example and celebrate with food, and that’s okay because they immediately turn to the recoups and recover. Ask Jackie Applebaum, who on her birthday not only sampled seven entrees at The Bistro Garden, but also had three scoops of pralines-and-cream ice cream for dessert. Within three days of her birthday she weighed a pound less than she had before she began the celebration. Don’t use holidays as an excuse. You don’t need one anymore. . . .
Weddings, Banquets, and Their Ilk
These deserve a separate category because they have one thing in common—the food is prepared en masse. Before you make your decision about which way to go, think about whether you really want to blow it on a meal prepared for hundreds. Is this really the time to do an Open Human?
Since there’s always a salad and bread and butter, Open Carb is usually the best choice. The protein is either wading in sauce or drenched in salt.
It’s easy for most public facilities to be accommodating. That, after all, is their business. Call the catering department ahead of time and ask for a special meal. You’ll almost always be able to get baked potatoes or a vegetable plate and, yes, even fruit. Remember Barbara, the wife of the councilman? She lost forty-five pounds on the banquet circuit by using this system.
The size of a wedding party will sometimes dictate your decision. If it’s small and intimate, with good food, your choice will be tougher. As with the rest of the world, there are always exceptions. But generally, mass affairs are not worth blowing it on.
